Relement is happy to be featured by Tecnon Orbichem in their recent elaborate blog by Jane Denny regarding biobased phthalic anhydride. Tecnon Orbichem data platform OrbiChem360 calculates global phthalic anhydride production capacity at 6.4 million metric tons in 2022 – over half in China or Northeast Asia, and they confirm this is all coming from petrochemical-based sources. Since there are currently no commercial biobased phthalic anhydride (PA) products available, a non-fossil aromatic could prove a gamechanger.
Tecnon OrbiChem’s PA expert Ben Edmunds says although our Relement MPA innovation is still too early in development, many of his contacts are interested to know more. If Relement’s bio-aromatic MPA is indeed capable of outperforming traditional PA for particular end-use industries, then those downstream markets will likely be willing to pay a premium over traditional PA for that improved performance.
